Western Cape York Mothership Charter

The fishing area around the West coast of Cape York Peninsula is huge and diverse with the best locations only accessible by mothership operations. Here you can find some of the most varied fishing in the world, as well as enjoying the most beautiful surroundings.

The diverse range of fish you will encounter on this mothership adventure is simply incredible, with over 60 species just waiting for you to make the cast. Large Spanish Mackerel, Giant Trevally, Coral Trout, Red Emperor and Nannygai are popular targets on the reefs; whilst Permit, Queenfish, Golden Trevally and Giant Herring can be found in abundance on the flats. And of course let's not forget the Barramundi and Mangrove Jacks in the snags and the beautiful, prehistoric Saratoga in the fresh water.

Your adventure in this fishing paradise begins when you board the 105 minute flight to Cape York from Cairns. This scenic trip will provide spectacular views over the world heritage rainforest of Cape York, and out to the magnificent reef system that comprises the Great Barrier Reef. Upon arrival at Bamaga you'll be met by the Carpentaria Seafaris crew for the transfer to your mothership and immediate departure on your fishing adventure of a lifetime.

Your home for the week is Tropic Paradise, a magnificent 62 foot catamaran, which was custom built for Carpentaria Seafaris in 2002. She provides an excellent base, with comfortable accommodation from which you can access the magnificent remote wilderness of northern Australia. Tropic Paradise is fully surveyed and licensed to carry up to 12 guests in absolute comfort and safety, with all the modern conveniences you could need.

There are also a number of purpose built fishing skiffs to get you onto the Tunas Mackerals and other pelagics in the open water or into the nooks and crannies of rivers and estuaries, getting you really up close and personal with Barramundi, Mangrove Jacks and Saratoga.

A typical day begins at first light, as you awaken to the smell of coffee and a delicious continental breakfast. As the sun breaks the horizon you'll board your allotted skiff with you guide and head off for a great day of fishing. Your guide will stay in contact with the mothership and the other skiffs, so if there is some spectacular action you will know about it and more importantly get to fish it.

You'll return to the mothership for a well deserved lunch and a break from the afternoon sun, before heading back out on the water until about 5pm.

Before dinner there's time for a hot shower, a cold beer and some hors d'oeuvres as you watch the sunset. Then it's a freshly cooked meal for you and your fellow fisho's, with a chance to recount the tales of the day over a glass or two of wine.

As well as the incredible fishing there are plenty of other activities you can also enjoy such as spear fishing, snorkeling or just sitting back to watch the most stunning sunsets with a beer in one hand and fresh fish in the other!
