A Rare Adventure

Australia is one lucky country. We have some truly amazing places to see and experience in this land. In Queensland's Cape York the rainforest meets the reef. In Western Australia there are places where the reef meets the outback. And at Bullo River Station this is where the outback meets the outback! Forget the movie Australia, when it comes to experiencing the real outback, Bullo River is Australia!

This 7 day trip, A Rare Adventure is a seven day, six night fishing charter, located in the most sublimely beautiful part of the Northern Territory. The base for the trip is Bullo River Station, which comprises two hundred thousand hectares of cattle station, scrub and mountain range, stretching from west of the giant Victoria River to the West Australian border. Large enough to absorb one or two European countries.

On Bullo River Station you will experience Australia in a way that few travellers have. In fact you'll experience Australia in a way that very few Aussies have! But don't let the remoteness of Bullo Station put you off, as this is central to the magic of this outback fishing experience.

Bullo River Station is not just a holiday station, but is a fully operational working cattle station, complete with horses, muddy four-wheel drives, heavy bulldozers, trucks, a helicopter, stock camps and a colourful crew of stockmen. For many visitors, the ability to see a real cattle station at work, rather than just a Hollywood style prop, is one of the most fascinating aspects of their stay.

The fishing opportunities on Bullo River Station are incredible. With access to Victoria River - the largest and most remote rivers in Australia - , Victoria River, you'll hunt for Salmon, Mangrove Jacks, and Barramundi in an environment has barely been touched by fishermen, or any other men for that matter! Of course, there is also the Bullo River itself, where you have access to 50 miles of this beautiful winding waterway to fish, including the location where the Bullo and Victoria Rivers join, delivering some of the biggest Barramundi in the Northern Territory.

The station is over half a million acres and within its boundaries there is some of the best Barramundi fishing in the world. The guides will work with you to make sure you have access to the best spots, depending on the type of fishing you prefer. You are welcome to fish from the river banks without a guide if you prefer, like but we do recommend thato you should take the opportunity whilst there to fish those spots that only the locals could know.

As For an optional extra there is you have access to an helicopter that can deliver you to fishing spots to will give you fishing opportunities that you could only dream about. Flying over the rugged landscape river, your guide will point out some of the best fishing locations from this superb vantage point and seeing a spot you want fish and before you know it you'll be are fishing a waterway that very few people ever get to see, let along wet a line. that spot.

There are also two fully kitted out boats available for your use. that you can use. Those of you that are fly fishing nuts or lure and soft plastics fanatics you tthere areof a million snags and rock bars to cast to in these fishing locations. Remember we are talking about some serious Barramundi fishing here, with a number of 50 pound plus Barramundi caught each year.

Situated in the midst of the Aussie outback, you may think that style and comfort at Bullo River Station would be a bit rough and ready (Aussie for second class - what does that mean?) but that is not the case at all. tThe accommodation is purpose build so you have to opportunity to experience the real Australia. There are 12 rooms each with air-conditioning and en suites. No walking around in the dark looking for the loo!! All the rooms have access onto the gardens and you have are welcome to use the vast living area of the homestead and the swimming pool. Breakfast is served on the verandah of the homestead and dinner is in the main dinning rooms. Dinner is a friendly affair with everyone catching up together about the events of the day and catch up with everyone to see how their day was. There is always plenty of food and the stations specialties' are made from fresh Barramundi and the local organic meat.

The beauty of A Rare Adventure is that you get to determine how much fishing you want to include in your trip. You can do as much or as little as you'd like, and there are plenty more activities to enhance your outback experience should you choose. Marlee and Franz Ranacher have owned and operated Bullo River Station for many years, and encourage guests to join in any aspect of station life, including mustering cattle on horseback, swimming in rock pools at the top of sandstone escarpments and fishing in the rivers. You can also take in the local wildlife, which includes buffalo, wallabies and birds.

Bull Catching, or more accurately Bulldozing, is another unique bush experience that involves the relatively simple but effective method of catching wild bulls with the aid of of a specially fitted vehicle, which literally knocks them off their feet! Few are injured and as Marlee points out, "this may look rough, but you've got to remember that the Toyota doesn't weigh much more than the bull, so it's a pretty even contest!"

As well as the station's stock horses, which are the backbone of Bullo's cattle operations, there are also horses available for guests to ride, subject to your riding experience and ability. For experienced horse riders, a, a day exploring the red lands of Bullo River Station allows you to see, hear and smell the beauty of the outback, stopping at the river or a nearby watering hole for a picnic provided by the station.

Those guests with a real passion for exciting horseback riding can participate in a cattle muster in the winter months of May to October. Here you'll be a part of one of the most traditional and authentic outback experiences around. And even if you're not game to participate, just watching the muster or assisting with the handling of stock can be an exciting experience like no other.

For a more relaxed day, a visit to the Aboriginal rock art sites will provide you with an insight into the the culture of a people who belonged to this country, long, long before the white man arrived. Australia is the oldest continent on earth and there is evidence that the aboriginal people have been in Australia for over one hundred and fifty thousand years. The rock art in this part of Australia is as remote as it is beautiful and you will have an opportunity to visit sites that will give you a unique insight to the Aboriginaleir culture. When you visit a site don't just look at the rock art but have a look around and see what the natural landscape is like. Like we do to day their artwork was displayed at a point of significance for their clan.

A helicopter is based at the property. The helicopter can also be used for scenic flights offering awesome photographic opportunities, for fishing expeditions or to whisk you off to secret waterfalls and swimming holes otherwise inaccessible by land. Franz Ranacher is your fully licensed pilot and the chopper seats up to three guests, and is charged by the hour.

Whether you're looking for a family holiday, a couples getaway or a full on fishing trips with the boys, Bullo River Station is the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of your modern world. Despite the improvement in modern communications, this part of the Northern Territory remains outside the mainstream of modern Australia. The locals here have heard of Blackberries, but would much rather eat the local mangoes when they are in season!

This is a place where people lead lives more akin to the adventures of Indiana Jones than that of the average person on the street and here you'll enjoy a remarkable taste of real frontier life before it disappears forever. There are plenty of activities for you, your partner, you children or your friends and if everyone wants to do something a little different that's ok too.

Many of the activities on offer to guests require some planning, so pre-booking is a great way to ensure you get to enjoy all of the activities you want to include on your trip. As the owner and operator of FishingEarth, Doug Leoni can help you with the planning of your trip as well as taking care of the entire booking, so you can just relax.
