The rivers of northern Australia are unmatched for the diversity of fishing that they offer. You can fish crystal clear rivers for Jungle Perch and Sooty Grunter or you can fish closer to the coast for Barramundi, Tarpon and Threadfin Salmon. The rivers of northern Australia are perfect for your fishing adventure as a number of fishing lodges and charters are set up to take advantage of the amazing angling opportunities.

The river and creek fishing in northern Australia has something for every taste and style. In fact there are so many options it can be tough knowing what fish you want to target. We all know how daunting it can be arriving at a new fishing destination. Do you fish with bait for the Barramundi? Or are the deep diving lures getting to the fish? Do you go up or down the river? If you are a lure or soft plastic nut, our rivers are for you. We don’t like to discriminate in tropical Australia, so you fly fishers are not left out either. Even though many of our fish are hard fighters, there are many different approaches that you can take when targeting them. Your professional and experienced guide will help you develop your methods for targeting our tropical fish.

For those of you that want to kick back and wet a bait sitting in beautiful tropical northern Australia, we can also cater for you. Although there is no guarantee that you will have a chance to kick back and relax before you reel starts to scream with another tropical fish attached.

Latest Fishing Reports for: River Fishing

Weipa - April 07

Barramundi were on the bite as the weather began to clear, from another northern wet season. Eating to replenished spent energy used while in the breeding mode. Tuna moved in the Bay, hunting down the vast bait schools that feed on the nutrients that are flushed out the local river systems this time of the year. view

Daintree River - Nov 07

A few trips offshore in the last week of September were thoroughly exciting. I had few opportunities for photos on some trips as spanish mackeral, hungry trout, of all different colouring, nannygai, trevally, and GT’s kept me flat out. All fish kept definitely had roe in them. view

Daintree River - Oct 07

In September, when it calmed right off, it coincided with neap tides. Therefore the water visibility increased greatly, causing the fish to become fussy. Offshore I saw a quite of lot of spanish mackeral follow, then veer away from the bait and boat when close. I then had the only choice of changing fishing style, targeting the deeper reef species, which paid off more often than not. view

Daintree River - Sep 07

The salt water has well and truly passed the ferry crossing in the Daintree River, bringing with it golden trevally, grunter and queenfish, so fishing off the Public Wharf is once again worth while for the land based fisho, particularly with a run in tide on dusk. view

Daintree River - Aug 07

Thank goodness for the break in the south easterlies early in the month. To have the opportunity to get offshore and target spanish mackerel satisfied my itchy feet, and made many of my clients more than happy. view
