Mad Tuesday with Barra Mick

Well here is welcome to the first Tuesday night round up, otherwise known as the Tuesday night escape for me and a mate. No Matter what the tide or what the weather you will find us on the inlet or if weather permits on the reef. view

Townsville - Jan 08

Over the past week the Aplins Weir has been producing a number of Jacks, along with Barramundi. Anglers using soft plastics and hard bodied lures have had the greatest results. The Black and Gleesons weirs have also been producing Jacks and Barra. view

At most beaches, and the headland at Dickson Inlet kids can be assured of catching fish, and though most will be undersized or unsuitable like toadfish, this is a great first stepping stone in their education of fishing sustainably. view

It’s been a slow season for Black Marlin off Cairns…why? Who knows…but the Spaniards have been around in unusually good numbers. view

If you were fortunate enough to catch the calm weather before the November reef fin closure, all species were there to be hooked. view

Cape York West Coast - Nov 07

We were planning to go east this trip for the first trip of the 07 summer and we were all looking forward to it. Monitoring the weather closely it was looking progressively worse and uncertain for the 100 mile open ocean trip. view

Daintree River - Jun 07

Our winter (post wet) season started with cause for celebration in May, gracing us with calm, dry conditions, perfect for getting off shore. In the first few days of calm spanish mackerel, trevally (mainly giant, golden, bludger, cale-cale), nannygai, fingermark and coral trout were the dominant species boated. view

Daintree River - Jul 07

Since my last time of writing in May, the Daintree region has had 3 occasions when the rain exceeded 4 inches on a 24 hour period, and though the river cleared quickly enough it sure made you rethink your tactics in the river when it turned orange overnight and the waters are already too cool for the barra. view

Daintree River - Aug 07

Thank goodness for the break in the south easterlies early in the month. To have the opportunity to get offshore and target spanish mackerel satisfied my itchy feet, and made many of my clients more than happy. view

Daintree River - Sep 07

The salt water has well and truly passed the ferry crossing in the Daintree River, bringing with it golden trevally, grunter and queenfish, so fishing off the Public Wharf is once again worth while for the land based fisho, particularly with a run in tide on dusk. view
