The fishing between Ingham and Proserpine is as varied and vibrant as the area itself. Here you’ll find dramatically different environments either side of the rugged rainforest mountains, which form part of the Great Dividing Range. On the coastal side of these magnificent mountains are sugar cane fields, along with mango plantations and farming land. On the western side of the mountains, the landscape changes from tropical green to rugged outback Australia. view

Situated on the Gulf of Carpentaria, Karumba is a tiny town of just 600 permanent residents. Known as the ‘Gateway to the Gulf’ this place is well known by Queenslanders for its legendary fishing. From here you can easily access the Gulf itself as well as many of Western Cape York’s remote rivers, including the Norman River which flows from the south-east corner of the Gulf of Carpentaria to the sea. view

‘The Daintree’ is a loose term that locals use to describe the area between the actual Daintree Rainforest and the Cape Tribulation. This is a massive area, which covers over 60 kilometres of National Park, stretching from the Mossman Gorge all the way through to the Bloomfield River. view

Between the cities of Cairns and Townsville lies the Cassowary Coast, stretching over 200 kilometres from Babinda down to Cardwell. The region is bordered by the Great Barrier Reef to the east and the World Heritage Wet Tropics Rainforest to the west and encompasses offshore islands, golden sandy beaches, cool mountain streams, waterfalls and mangrove everglades. The fauna is wide and varied with crocodiles, cassowaries, butterflies, birdlife and all the tropical sports fish you can think of. view

Weipa

Known as a key Barramundi hotspot of the north, Weipa’s estuarine and offshore waters are also home possibly the most prolific and diverse range of species in tropical Australia. In fact, it’s not uncommon for anglers to catch over 20 different species in the course of a week if they turn their hand to both river and offshore fishing. view
