How to Catch

A good way to prepare yourself for reeling in a Sailfish is to imagine reeling in a fish travelling at the speed of the cars passing you on the highway. This speedster is best caught on the highest quality light tackle. They can be taken by tolling live or dead baits of macks, mullet, garfish or other medium sized bait fish. They are also targeted on the fly with varying success and once hooked give a very spirited jumping display.

Where to Find

Sailfish are generally found in the tropical waters of Australia but in summer they have been found in the more southern waters of Australia's east and west coasts. They often travel in small pods and roam the surface and mid-depths of the ocean in search of smaller pelagic fish and squid.
