Beautiful locationsArnhem Bay Big Barra Charter
Arnhemland is one of world's last true wilderness areas, untouched by the hand of modern day life. Owned by an Aboriginal clan called Yolngu, this area is as big as England and is a stronghold for protecting a way of life long forgotten in many parts of Australia.
The fishing grounds of Arnhem Bay, Buckingham Bay and Castlereagh Bay boast some of the most productive Barramundi hotspots in the world. With vast tidal rivers, mangrove lined estuaries and rich coastal waters, the surroundings are stunning and the Barra are big!
This angling experience of a lifetime starts with your journey to the remote and pristine area of Nhulunbuy, on the Gove Peninsula. Here you will meet with mothership the Iron Lady and her crew, before continuing on to the fishing grounds of Arnhem Bay, Buckingham Bay or Castlereagh Bay.
When you first arrive on the Iron Lady, head guide Dan Bergamo will join you to set up your gear. He'll advise you on lure selection, demonstrate how best to rig for the area being fished, and take novice anglers through the basic knots required.
If you don't have a particular lure that is taking fish in the area, or you run out, the ship carries stocks of the best lures for sale, and rods and reels are available for those who may not have the correct tackle for the situation.
The fishing program is tailored to make the most of the conditions prevailing at the time, which means you'll have no trouble hooking up to your target species of choice. Naturally, the prime target for most groups is Barramundi, and the Barra fishing in estuaries, headlands and creeks is exceptionally good. Also encountered in this pristine environment are Fingermark, GT's, Mangrove Jack, Estuary Cod, Salmon, Barracuda and many more.
If you tire of catching big Barra, the nearby Wessel or English Company Islands offer a spectacular change of location and scenery. Here the fishing is mainly for pelagics such as Queenfish, Spanish Mackerel and GT's, with some brilliant reef fishing for Coral Trout and Red Emperor available in the same area. These waters are virtually unfished.
In the estuary and river systems, two experienced guides will lead the fishing skiffs, ensuring that you get the most from each fishing hotspot that you visit. Experienced fishermen may want nothing more than to be taken to the hotspots and left to do their thing, while novice anglers will be given all the help they need by guides who will tie knots, select appropriate lures, give casting lessons and take fish off the hook for you.
On location, you'll live aboard the Iron Lady and enjoy all the comforts and hospitality of a first class hotel. The 65' luxury mothership Iron Lady, is fully air-conditioned with an interior dining room, plus a spacious top deck incorporating a large BBQ and dining table to seat 12. This is often the venue for evening meals, when you and your fellow fisho's can recount the catches of the day, over fresh fish and a few ice cold beers, before retiring to your air-conditioned cabin (with en-suite) for a sound nights sleep after a big days fishing.
Accompanying you will be the 32' Black Fin game boat, Salt Shaker, as well as a variety of skiffs and tenders. This means there is always an option for getting you in and out of all the fishing hotspots in the area.
